faith and fanatics

John Eye : vocals, guitar, keyboard, percussion
Steve Genovese: bass guitar
Keith Martinelli : drum kit

Words and music by John Eye. Released in 2004.

This collection of songs was recorded at Necessary Blackout Studios in Boston MA. Produced by John Eye, engineered by John Eye and Steve Genovese.

The 'faith and fanatics' recording was another step firmly into the rock genre. A sign of the Bush-fueled wars, political, and religious conflict, the lyrics are charged on the title track. 'faith and fanatics' is a protest against violence as an answer to the problems of humanity, and begs for our generation of leaders to evolve beyond narrow minded perspectives of the past. This unforgiving message helped the song be picked for Neil Young's compilation of anti-war songs Living With War Today.

On this recording I was trying to hone my skills at writing in the "rock" format, specifically for a trio. I wanted to test the boundaries of what I could do with a limited palate.

This recording was also a huge leap in my engineering skills. With Steve Genovese's help on eq I felt confident enough in the mixes that we did, that we ended up mastering the disc ourselves. The final result was one of the best sounding recordings that had been made to this point, and the experience resulted in a solid foundation of skills that I was confident to move forward with.
